Flight Time Savings Stack up for U.S. Operators with Data Comm

Data Communications (Data Comm) has been a trending industry topic in the last few months, and we've been seeing and sharing the benefits it offers to operators. Now, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has published metrics to confirm one of the biggest benefits; time savings operators are experiencing. The following chart from the FAA shows time saved per flight with Data Comm (vs. non-Data Comm):

In addition to the 10 airports listed above, there are an additional 45 airports throughout the United States that are Data Comm operational. For a full list of Data Comm / Controller-Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC) Departure Clearance (DCL) operational airports, click here.

The FAA is already planning deployment to additional airports and may include: KRSW, KCMH, KCHS, KADW, KBUF, KRNO, KVNY, KOMA, KELP, KTUL and KGRR.

"How Can I Utilize CPDLC DCL Procedures?"

The Future Air Navigation System (FANS) Domestic is an evolving capability and currently supports CPDLC DCL. Our FANS 1/A+ and CPDLC solution includes a SBAS-FMS, UniLink UL-800/801 Communications Management Unit (CMU) and data link-capable Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR). Any version of our UniLink® CMU with Software Control Number (SCN) 30.X or later can qualify for domestic CPDLC and FANS Oceanic; however, SCN 31.X and later (expected to be released in June) adds European CPDLC capabilities.
